PTSD
Morten Birket-Smith, psychiatrist
PTSD is an abbreviation for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder – i.e. a stress and strain reaction, which occurs after a traumatic situation.
If you have been involved in accidents or been subjected to other severe mental traumas, you might get prolonged anxiety symptoms. The anxiety symptoms get worse every time something reminds you of the events you have been subjected to. And you might experience the traumas as thoughts, pictures or in dreams. PTSD can often be treated effectively with medicine and psychotherapy.
