Changing doctors

If you want to change your doctor, you should contact your local authority. You can only change your doctor if you have been registered with your current doctor for at least six months or if you have moved.

Changing doctor costs DKK 130. (2004), and you can only choose a doctor who is taking new patients and who lives within 10km of your home. You can change doctor from the 1st of a month if you apply no later than the 15th of the previous month.

Most local authorities have a website where you can read about how to change your doctor and which doctors are taking on new patients. Your local authority can alternatively give you this information. Remember to bring your medical card if you visit your local authority in person concerning changing your doctor.
